Car Insurance Freeport: Learning How To Read Your Car Insurance Policy

Car Insurance Oceanside: Many people struggle with the technical jargon found on their car insurance policies. This is one of the main reasons why people don’t even bother to read the insurance policy and they just assume they know what they are covered for.

People from Freeport, Hempstead, Longbeach, Long Island, Nassau County, Oceanside, Suffolk County and Westbury make no exception.

We have noticed that this type of behavior is prevalent among those who have auto insurance, so we’ve put together a short guide on how to “read” and understand your car insurance policy. Above all, you need to understand the things you are covered for in your insurance and the things you are not:

Three sections for liability

In most auto insurance policies you will find three sections: liability insurance for bodily injury, liability insurance for property damage and uninsured/under-insured motorists’ coverage.

Two sections for property damage

Your auto insurance can be divided in two sections when it comes to property damage: collision coverage and comprehension coverage.

Your Insurance Policy

The policy is also divided in a number of sections, including types of coverage (liability, medical payments, uninsured/underinsured motorist, and coverage for damage to your auto), rights and obligations under the policy and exclusions or limitations.

Other insurance elements

There are two more pages in your car insurance policy: declarations page and insuring agreement. Read these carefully before you sign the insurance policy.

You will find the declarations page at the beginning of your insurance policy. It contains various information about the vehicle covered in the policy (such as an accurate description of the vehicle), information about the insured (you), and coverage limits.

The insuring agreement is a broad statement of the perils and risks covered under the contract.
